Howlite is most commonly used to reduce anxiety, tensions, and stress. By calming and soothing the emotions, this stone can slow the overactive mind and help to achieve a deep and restful sleep. It can also help to channel wisdom during the dream state and help to bring it back into consciousness upon waking. By facilitating awareness, it encourages emotional expression and assists in the elimination of pain, stress and/or rage. Physically, Howlite is said to help with the absorption of calcium into the bones and teeth. It’s also really great for releasing muscular tension.

This lovely stone has been used by practitioners to focus the mind. The grey spidery veins are thought to be like intrusive thoughts, to be acknowledged and then passed by. For this mental calming effect, some believers advocate placing Howlite under an insomniac's pillow, to promote serenity of mind and to empty it of distracting thought. Considered an attunement stone, Howlite is said to help one connect to higher spiritual consciousness, allowing for greater communication of higher frequencies into the higher chakras to be assimilated by the unconscious mind. Howlite is also great for working with both current and past-life issues. This stone also strengthens positive character traits, removing selfishness, rude behavior, and greed.

You can recognize Howlite by its looks. It is mostly white to gray with gray or black veins running all over it in an erratic manner. It also makes a graceful and charming jewelry. It was named after a Canadian mineralogist, Henry How, who discovered it in 1868 in Nova Scotia. He was alerted of it by miners in a gypsum quarry.

“I am attuned to pure, infinite energy.”
